Why Are Regular Dental Checkups & Cleanings Important?

It’s common for patients to wait until they’re in pain to schedule an appointment. However, you need to visit us every four to six months for a checkup and cleaning – even if you brush, floss, and rinse with mouthwash consistently. That’s because there are some things you can’t do at home, such as conduct a thorough oral cancer screening or remove caked-on tartar. Plus, these periodic visits to our office allow us to catch damaged restorations, cavities, gum disease, and the like early on, before they result in a painful dental emergency.
What to Expect During a Dental Checkup

If it’s been more than a year since you’ve had X-rays taken or you’re a new patient, then your dental checkup will begin here. Otherwise, we’ll start with the visual exam. Dr. Lamberti will carefully examine the condition of your teeth, gums, and bite. He will also do an intra and extraoral exam, look at the soft tissue in your mouth, and check for warning signs of oral cancer. Then, he will review their findings with you and answer any questions you have!
What to Expect During a Dental Cleaning

The cleaning portion of your visit, on the other hand, is dedicated to thoroughly cleaning your teeth, gums, and the hard-to-reach areas of your mouth. To do so, one of our talented dental hygienists will use special tools to meticulously and carefully remove plaque, tartar, and other debris. If they notice anything, like gum inflammation around a certain tooth, they will let you know so you can give special attention to that area while completing your oral hygiene regimen. Otherwise, they will end your appointment by simply flossing and polishing your teeth!
