What Is the First Dental Crown Appointment Like?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A dental crown is typically placed in two appointments. During the first appointment, your dentist will examine your mouth and the tooth being treated. They will then apply a local anesthetic, rendering the rest of the procedure painless. They will remove any damaged or decayed structure from the tooth. The tooth will then be cleaned and disinfected, and any empty spots will be filled with a special dental material to keep bacteria from colonizing them. The tooth will then be smoothed so it can receive the crown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dentist will then take impressions of your bite and the treated tooth. A temporary crown will be cemented in place and you will be sent on your way. The impression and further instructions from your dentist will be sent to the lab that will manufacture your crown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Is the Second Dental Crown Appointment Like?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You will return to the dentist\u2019s office after they receive your new crown a few weeks later. Your temporary crown will be removed and your permanent one will be cemented into place. Your dentist will then evaluate your bite and make any adjustments before you leave the office. The patient will be advised to avoid anything crunchy or sticky while the cement sets. Discomfort can be treated with over-the-counter pain medication. If the patient experiences any pain or bite misalignment, they should call their dentist to schedule an appointment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
