About Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain Veneers: How are they done?

FIRST APPOINTMENT: (Preparation)
At your first visit, the teeth are prepared and an impression is taken. Normally, only about ½ millimeter (about the thickness of a dime) of enamel is reduced from the front and the edges of the teeth. An impression is taken and sent to the lab where each porcelain veneer is custom made to our specifications. Do not use bleaching products for two weeks prior to this appointment or shade selection will be hindered.

BETWEEN VISITS:
Normally it will take 14-28 days to fabricate the veneers. During this time your teeth may be more sensitive to hot and cold. There are techniques to help minimize this. Oral hygiene is a must during this period. Healthy gums are required to place your new veneers! Brush at least 3 times a day and be sure to gently massage the gums with the brush–Note: do not floss next to the temporaries or you will pop them off. Also, do not bite into anything with the temporaries or they will break. Normal chewing may resume after
the placement of the veneers.

SECOND APPOINTMENT: (Placement of Veneers)
The resin bonding process takes at least 72 hours to sure in it's entirety. During this time, you should avoid hard foods and maintain a relatively soft diet. Extremes in temperature (either hot or cold) should also be avoided. Avoid alcohol and the medicated mouth washes because they have the potential to affect the resin bonding cementing material during this early phase. Any sensitivity you have for 24 hours after the appointment is normal and will dissipate. Medication is available upon request.

ONE WEEK FOLLOW-UP:
At this we will fine tune the veneers both functionally and cosmetically, if needed. Be patient, it will take your gums, lips, tongue, bite, cheeks and speech time to accommodate to your "new" teeth. We may suggest to you to come in several times to make sure you are progressing accordingly.

Please be prompt! We need the entire appointment time
